Political Protests
Ideas
- Selling Babies (human value
- Racism (police brutality in the black community)
- Selling Women (human value).
- Mental Hospital
In class we are performing a political protest which is were we perform a very political piece about a topic we have chosen before hand in a public place where the audience are able to interact and walk around gather what they can from the performance, the performance will last around 30 minutes. My group have chosen to do our piece on Human value and we will present it through the idea of selling babies - this is done buy making the babies 'price' depend on things such as gender, race and disability. I think that the way that my group did this was very effective as in our performance we set up a stall that had pictures of babies on it and details of the babies ie eye color, disabilities, price etc. This was to make it clear to the audience the point we were trying to make about it being about human value furthermore i think that the way we did was effective as it wasn't presented to the audience in an obvious typical 'in your face' way however it was done more subtly and held more underlying themes of human value and even discrimination. I also think that the props we used in our performance was effective as it enhanced the realistic side to the performance as we had items such as a catalog we made and posters, also we had signs, sign up sheets and logos. I was the 'saleswoman', which meant that i had to go out with the catalog and bring people in to the stall and try to convince them to buy them a baby and this not only gave me the element of surprise as no one is expecting someone to start offering them to buy a baby and is also a shock factor. I think the fact that we used recent news stories when performing also added to the effectiveness of the performance. However to improve i think that we should have researched even more news stories and background on the topic because this would have meant that the point we were trying to get across would make the audience think even more as it would be something that is currently going on in the world currently instead of only using some of the babies from new stories.
We staged our work under the stairs to contradict what we were trying to say - this is because we were presenting ourselves as a professional business as if selling babies based on human value was normal and right however we presented our stall under the stairs to make it seem shifty and almost unprofessional, I think that was again a very effective choice to make however next time to make it obvious to the audience that we unprofessional trying to be professional we could have made it obvious that we had something to hide for example maybe we could have had a crying baby sound in a bag and when people came close to the stall we could have thrown the bag away and paste fake smiles on our face. Overall i strongly believe that our political protest was very effective and i had a lot of fun working towards it and performing it.
